Can CBD Oil be Put in the Ear?
There are many ways to take CBD oil. The most common is to place it under the tongue, swallow it, or rub it into the skin, but there are other ways. One big questions we get asked, “Can CBD Oil be Put in the Ear?”
But what is the purpose of taking CBD oil in this fashion? Well, as much as science is still trying to work out the ins and outs of what CBD can offer in terms of health benefits, there is anecdotal evidence that suggests there can be advantages to putting CBD oil in the ear. As always, we are not here to tell you definitively that CBD helps with any health issues, our job is simply to bring you all the available information so you can make an informed decision on the right course of action for you.
There is anecdotal evidence from some THC users that suggests that consuming THC can exacerbate the symptoms of tinnitus.
Science backs this up as well, with research suggesting that THC, which interacts with the CB1 receptors in the human body, can increase tinnitus in rats.
Can CBD Cause Tinnitus?
While THC has been shown to have possible negative effects on tinnitus, CBD has not. Unlike THC, which is the psychoactive molecule in cannabis (the one that gets you high, basically), CBD does not react with CB1 receptors.
While CBD will interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, the CB1 reactors are not part of this interaction, so there is nothing to suggest that CBD will make tinnitus, or any other ear infections worse.
What is the Benefit of CBD in the Ear?
Not making anything any worse is, in fairness, the least we expect from a product we may put in our ear.
There has been limited scientific research carried out into the effects of CBD on tinnitus and other ear focused conditions, but as stated above, the world is not short of anecdotal evidence.
Many sites contain various accounts from tinnitus sufferers on how taking CBD affected them.
If you choose to use CBD oil in your ear, and you have not done so before, it is advisable to start with a low strength oil, no more than 5% in strength.
On an interesting side not, there is also some anecdotal evidence that suggests CBD oil may help with ear infections in dogs.
Again, we are not stating facts here, merely helping you with your own research.
CBD and Anxiety
Many people who suffer from ear infections have mental health based side effects as a result. With tinnitus, for example, the constant ringing in one’s ears can lead to anxiety and stress.
There are reports to suggests CBD oil could help here too (not necessarily in the ear) with this 2015 study stating that cannabidiol (CBD) may have positive effects on the symptoms of anxiety disorders.
Why Put CBD Oil in Your Ear?
The answer to this question is actually very simple. The only reason you should put CBD oil in your ear is that you want to.
Whether you have carried out research and believe it may be of assistance to you, or you just want to try it to see what happens, if you choose to put CBD oil in your ear, there is no suggestion it will have any negative effects.
However, be sure to check with your doctor if you are using any other medication for ear infections, and check that using CBD will not interfere with these medications.
We will never tell you to do something, nor will we ever tell you not to, but we are here to answer any questions you may have about putting CBD oil in your ear, so feel free to get in touch.
