Can CBD Lower Blood Pressure?
Sometimes we get to answer two questions in one, which is always nice. This time those questions are is it safe to take CBD when you have high blood pressure? And can CBD lower blood pressure?
So, let’s tackle these questions one at a time and see how we get on.
Is it Safe to Take CBD With High Blood Pressure?
Yes. There’s nothing currently to suggest that taking CBD is a risk when you have high blood pressure.
Damn, that was quick, let’s see if we can get to the answer to the next question that fast.
Can CBD Lower Hypertentsion?
Okay, we were never going two for two on straight answers. If you know us, and you know the world of CBD, you know there are very few straight answers in this world, and normally we have to dig down a bit to get all the information necessary to allow you to make an informed decision, which is what we’re going to be doing here.
About High Blood Pressure
Estimates suggest that up to one in three people in some countries suffer from hypertension, often referred to as hypertension from those who like to use big words… and doctors, also doctors.
Hypertension (What? We like to use big words) occurs due to a necessity for the heart to work harder providing blood to the body, which can lead to numerous health conditions including diabetes, as well as damage to the heart, kidneys, and more.
There are lifestyle changes that can be made to help with lowering blood pressure, namely regular exercise and a balanced dietary intake. But, in addition, more and more people are starting to look at CBD as a supplement to these lifestyle factors in aiding with the lowering of blood pressure.
CBD and Blood Pressure Lowering – The Science
Now, before we get too excited, we need to focus on the fact that research into the links between CBD and high blood pressure is limited at this point.
What scientific research there has been has seen some positive and interesting results, suggesting that there is potential for CBD to maintain healthy blood pressure levels, and also possibly to reduce the impact of stress on blood pressure.
However, as stated, its early days, and while these results are promising, they are not proof, and there is substantially more research necessary before it can be confirmed whether CBD can lower blood pressure or even simply help to maintain healthy levels.
CBD and Hypertension Medication
Finally, a warning that must be made.
While, as stated above, there is nothing to suggest that CBD has a negative impact on those with high blood pressure, there is potential for the cannabinoid to react in a less than positive way with some medications that may be prescribed for blood pressure issues.
CBD can interfere with certain medications, potentially resulting in either a decrease or an increase in the effectiveness, and possible side effects of the medication, neither of which is a good result!
Don’t worry, all you need to do is talk to your doctor. The stigma around CBD is dropping at a rapid rate at the moment, and medical professionals are more than aware of its popularity.
As a result, asking your doctor if taking CBD will react to any existing medication you are on is an entirely acceptable thing to ask, and in most cases, you will receive a judgement-free and informative answer.
Whether CBD will prove to be a positive thing for those who struggle with high blood pressure remains to be seen, as we have mentioned, the signs look good so far, but there’s a long road still to travel and anything can happen while we’re all on that road.
We will obviously keep you updated as and when there is any news, whether positive or negative, in relation to CBD and blood pressure, and if you have any questions, as always, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
