Can CBD Help Muscle Aches and Pains?

Aches and pains in the muscles can occur as the result of myriad causes, from flu, to a tough day in the gym, to just those unexplainable aches we all get every now and again. The question is (or at least the question we’re here to answer is) can CBD help with muscle aches and muscle pains?

We’ve already covered the potential effects of CBD in terms of aiding muscle recovery after a workout, so we won’t focus on that too much here, instead, we’re going to focus on general aches and pains as opposed to their causes, and what the science says about CBD’s potential to be of assistance when it comes to relieving such sensations.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

CBD and the terpenes included within it may offer anti-inflammatory properties, there has been some suggestion as a result of scientific research that this is a distinct possibility.

Inflammation in the joints and muscles is a frequent reason for aches and pains in the joints, so anti-inflammatories can aid in relieving the sensations be reducing this inflammation and swelling. Potentially, this may also aid in increasing joint mobility during times of stiffness (if you giggled at stiffness, we’d judge you, but we kinda did too).

Pain Relieving Properties and Can CBD Help Muscle Aches?

Another potential benefit of CBD according to research is pain relief. This is perhaps even more obvious than the previous section in terms of how it could relieve aches and pains in the muscles.

Topical CBD is becoming increasingly popular when it comes to reducing pain in joints and muscles, and CBD products as a whole are believed by many to assist in these situations.

What’s the Science?

Firstly, as always, we need to state clearly here that nothing we are saying here is stated as fact, this is the information available, but we are not saying that CBD definitely helps with aches and pains in the muscles. What is said above is all possibilities, potential benefits.

But why? Why is it even suggested that these benefits are possible? For that, we have to take a visit to one of our favourite places, the endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid system is the place in the body where naturally occurring cannabinoids… erm… occur.

This system plays a part in numerous bodily functions including appetite and fertility, but the one we are focusing on here is pain control the endocannabinoid system plays a part in how your body reacts to pain (essentially, how much sh*t hurts).

CBD reacts with the receptors in the endocannabinoid system, but not in the way many assume. THC reacts by binding to cannabinoid receptors, but it is believed that CBD interacts differently. Instead of binding to receptors, CBD essentially acts as a regulator, and could potentially assist these receptors in binging with naturally occurring cannabinoids, which could, in turn, assist with pain relief in joints and muscles.

So, Does it Work or Not?

We’re getting to that, hang on (yes, we’re talking to ourselves here, it’s important to communicate).

Basically, we don’t know, nobody knows, and anybody who tells you they know, well… they probably don’t know, let’s just say that, it’s the diplomatic way.

There is substantial anecdotal evidence from people saying that CBD has help with aches and pains in their muscles, and we are certainly not calling those people liars, it is simply that anecdotal evidence is not scientifically (or legally) classified as sufficient evidence for us to state things as fact.

What we can say for sure, is that if you want to try CBD for your muscle aches and pains, we completely support your decision, and we’re here to help with lovely creams like this one

If you’d rather wait until science has a final decision on whether CBD helps muscle aches and pains, we support your decision too, we’re not here to pressurise, we’re here if and when you’re ready to try, until then, consider us your source of information.
